Arneis is the main white grape variety from Piedmont (north west Italy) which is famous for its reds - Barolo and Barbaresco (Nebbiolo). Our Arneis is a delicate, fresh summer wine with aromas of pears and herbs and almond flavours on the palate and a strong mineral backbone. If you favour the primary fruit aromas and beautiful fragrance we suggest drinking this wine in the next few years.

This Botrytis Chardonnay is more like a “Trockenbeerenauslese (TBA)”. Trockenbeeren refers to grapes (Beeren) shrivelled by noble rot. Extremely ripe grapes and high must weight made this ultra-rich, deep golden, heavily botrytised wine. There is obviously only a little juice left in shrivelled berries and the vinifying of such a sticky juice can be challenging. The risk of loosing the grapes to grey rot because of possible prolonged rain was nerve racking (and we did loose all the botrytis Chardonnay in 2006). However, two and half months after the harvest of the “dry” Chardonnay on the 15th of June we finally could pick tiny but perfectly shrivelled grapes which have fermented into this wonderful age worthy nectar with flavours of pure honey and quince.

This Botrytis Pinot Gris was handpicked after being left on the vine into early May 2009, where the grapes were heavily wrinkled by noble rot. This Pinot Gris still displays those classic golden, rich and unctuous characteristics you’d expect from a Botrytis-style wine, balanced with surprising acidity. A heady blend of sweet candy, orange blossom and quince on the nose, the palate displays a rich blend of tropical fruit, with a lingering length of almond nougat.

This was an early vintage after a warm summer for our Cabernet Franc and we picked our grapes on a long Autumnal day at an extremely low yield of 500g per vine. A long fermentation with regular, gentle hand plunging ensured optimum extraction and voluptuous texture before the new must was gently pressed into French barriques and aged for 24 months. An intense, meaty complex Cabernet Franc with attractive aromas of dark berries are supported by backbone of fine tannins and velvety tannins complete this full bodied and elegant wine.

The growing season of 2003 was hot and brought everything this great grape variety loved. I kept yield levels on about 500gr per vine to gain high concentration and full physiological ripeness. Extremely full-bodied and deep dark colour bursting with power, concentration and texture. A heady nose, displaying flavours of dark black current underpinned by liquorish and savoury overtones, and enveloped by fine ripe tannins. A masculine but delicate wine which will age gracefully over the next 15 years.

The fruit from our low yielding vines already had a good ripeness but with a higher acidity than we would pick for the dry wines. 80% of the beautiful Pinot Noir was blended with 20% of the small berried, flavourful Mendoza Chardonnay. Cheeky rose-pink, sparkling with fine bubbles, this wine shows seductive aromas of ripe raspberry and strawberry. Impressive in its opulence but refreshing and elegant with a long lingering finish. Our Gewürztraminer reveals a dry, intensely perfumed wine with aromas of rose petals, lychees and ripe pineapple. Creamy in texture with a lovely mineral backbone, this is a full- bodied wine with spicy undertones and crisp acidity.

As Austria's most significant white wine variety it can produce a wide spectrum of wines, ranging from light-bodied wines often drunk young, to the opulent, rich vintage dry wines with exceptional cellaring potential. The variety is easily recognizable, with a spicy mixture of fruit (mostly apple) and the signature peppery note, supported with lively, integrated acidity. Our Grüner shows nuances of tropical notes and honeyed aromas complemented by a finely balanced mineral backbone.

Unlike brandy which is distilled from wine, Grappa is distilled from the soul of the grape – the pomace (skins, seeds, pulp and stems). Our organically grown grapes are gently pressed to avoid crushing the grape seeds or exerting pressure eliminating the possibility of over-extraction leaving a wonderful, moist pumice. This is then distilled to a premium Grappa, aromatic and complex, with a long finish. Crystal clear with many layers or spicy fragrances and a very floral Grappa nose culminating with the great fire feel in the mouth that one expects from a 42 percenter!

Our single vineyard is made up of a variety of different soils (or rather free-draining stones and gravels…) all of alluvial origin resulting in different ripening times. The seven different grape varieties for this wine were picked later than their individual varieties ensuring luscious fruit with intense flavours. True to the name the wine evolves beautifully in the glass and is drinking well now. Glorious, mighty, robust, intense but with the elegance and grace Hans’ wines are so famous for.

Due to the low yields we had an early vintage and picked our first Merlot grapes on a long, warm Autumnal day at an extremely low yield of less than 500g per vine. An intense, elegant and complex Merlot with attractive aromas of pure black cherries and liquorice that lead to a powerful, exuberant wine. Greatly balanced structure and velvety smooth tannins complete this full bodied wine.

An unusual style of red dessert wine produced in very small quantities. Created in the traditional Italian style of Amarone wines using the ‘passito’ technique of air-drying grapes to raisins in order to concentrate their juice. The handpicked grapes were air dried on racks in the winery for 8 weeks, reaching 34 Brix. They were then allowed to undergo wild yeast fermentation before being pressed into a single French oak barrel and then aged for 24 months in the same barrel. When poured into the glass this wine explodes on the nose with rich aromas of dried figs, currants, damsons and prunes. Complex and indulgent on the palate with more dried fruit characters combining with notes of cedar smoke, chocolate and alpine herbs. Lush and sensuous, this is a wine to savour.

Riesling is the great vine variety of Germany and could claim to be the finest white grape variety in the world on the basis of the longevity of its wines and their ability to transmit the characteristics of a vineyard without losing Riesling’s own inimitable style. A true reflection of the terroir and winemaker, this Riesling is notable for its powerful crispness, flowery, steely, honeyed aromas and great minerality. The natural raciness and tartness offers you an appealing sensation of light sweetness followed by a dry finish.

These grapes were selected from a single block on the Estate which has notably stony soil reminiscent of the terroir in Bordeaux and created in the style of a white Bordeaux. A small parcel of grapes were barrel fermented with wild yeasts in 100% new French oak before undergoing a secondary, malolactic fermentation and matured for 12 months in the same barrel before bottling. An exuberant Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of creamy white fruits, mango and vanilla spice on the rich, full bodied palate. A backbone of zesty acidity balances the wine and adds finesse. Powerful yet delicate with a lingering finish.

This is Spain’s most famous red grape variety widely planted in the Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Tempranillo can be enjoyed young, but the best ones are aged for several years in oak barrels. We picked our first Tempranillo with an extremely low yield of about 500g per vine and following a wild yeast ferment, this great Spaniard spent 18 months in French barriques. It is a deep purple/ruby red colour with the typical aromas and flavours of blackberries, cherries, plums and spice box with earthy undertones. A great acidity structure and velvety smooth tannins complete this full bodied and elegant wine.

Hans wanted to experiment with blending a small proportion of Roussanne (another white grape from the Rhone Valley in France) with our Viognier, so we made one barrel of this wine – and are very happy with the results! This is an aromatic wine with great depth and richness on the palate with flavours reminiscent of tropical flowers, ripe peach and honey. A creamy mouth filling texture is followed by a long lasting finish. A streak of balancing acidity adds backbone to the wine and ensures it will improve with further cellaring

This is Austria’s most widely planted red grape variety created in 1922 by Dr Zweigelt from a crossing of the grape varieties St. Laurent and Blaufraenkisch. We picked our 2010 Zweigelt on the 10th of April at a very low yield of less than 1kg per vine. Rich dark violet in colour with flavours of ripe berries, black pepper, spices and some earthy undertones. Aromas reminiscent of a basket of ripe stone fruits, damsons, elderberries and bitter dark chocolate. A highly complex wine with great acidity, structure and velvety smooth tannins that will age beautifully over the next decade.
