Vineyard & Winery

Position: Vineyard & Winery Assistant

Start Date: by appointment

Permanent, full-time

For a hands-on skilled worker with real passion to be involved in every aspect of high-quality artisan winegrowing...

Established in 1994, we kept our beautiful family-owned and operated wine estate small to produce some of New Zealand’s most respected artisan, estate-bottled wines from our 11.5-hectare organically certified vineyard. Hans and Therese Herzog are the stewards of this beautiful plot of land and still maintain a holistic approach to farming. Their handcrafted wines come in small quantities but have stolen the hearts of wine lovers all over the world.

Hans is obsessive about fruit quality and to make his fine wines, extensive vineyard work is needed. The vines nurtured with immaculate detail to produce a low yielding crop of exceptionally concentrated fruit.

Hans is hands on and hardworking but cannot do it all alone and is looking for someone with great physical strength and endurance for a hands-on role. This involves all day-to-day operations in the vineyard plus some winery cellar work.

Key task for this role include:

  • Tractor operations such as cultivating, under-vine weeding, mulching, moving, spraying, canopy trimming, leaf plucking
  • Manual operations such as canopy management, hand-pruning, vine training, netting the vineyard, hand-picking and all other harvest activities
  • Cellar hand tasks

You will need good machinery operation skills and must have the ability to work without supervision.

Our ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in the quality of their work, has a willingness to learn and enjoys working outdoors. A 'jack-of-all-trades' with a 'can do’ attitude who doesn’t mind doing the odd not-wine-related-job on our working farm.

We are a small team, and our new colleague should be open-minded, friendly with a happy disposition, and possessing the required skills. Also, our goal is to create amazing, handcrafted wines, not accumulate immense financial wealth. If you are after a big income, there a plenty of corporate wineries in Marlborough. Here, we try to achieve something much more satisfying.

If this sounds like you, please email your application, including references to Therese Herzog at info@herzog.co.nz. Please click here for the application form.

Applicants need to be a New Zealand resident or hold a current New Zealand work visa. Please apply only if you have the necessary skills and right to work in NZ. We will respond to applications who respect these requirements.

This is not for the faint-hearted. We work hard to create and deliver great wine- and customer experiences and this sometimes also on weekends or evenings.
