Hans Herzog Estate releases New Zealand’s first ‘Super-Tuscan’ inspired Blend!

Hans Herzog Estate, one of the country’s most treasured, truly artisan wineries, is launching a ‘Super Tuscan-inspired’ red blend named ‘Grandezza’. A first in New Zealand and a homage to Tuscany’s legendary wines like ‘Tignanello’ and ‘Solaia’.
With an authentic hands-on approach, Hans’ himself runs the organic 11.5 hectares vineyard, one of the warmest sites in Marlborough. Hans is famous for his experimentalist stance, unfettered by commercial considerations, growing an unconventional range of 25 different grape varieties for age-worthy wines of complexity, concentration, and balance.
The ‘Grandezza’ is a true reflection of Hans’ complete immersion in both his vineyard and his natural winemaking. “Grandezza represents a landmark in the New Zealand wine industry, especially as a producer in Marlborough, a region that accounts for more than 75% of the country’s wine production with 80% planted in the white variety Sauvignon Blanc”. says Hans’ wife Therese who manages the organic estate.
The 2019 Grandezza (magnificent or stately appearance) is a blend of 50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc from a purposely tiny yield of 800g per vine for natural concentration. A wine structured to impress, seriously crafted to perfection, demonstrating its heritage: single vineyard, hand-picked from the lowest yield. Untamed with long skin contact for intricacy and texture, natural fermentation with indigenous yeasts in barrel, no fining, no filtration and seriously matured on its fine lees with 24 months in barrel for a crescendo of silky power, purity, depth, and length.
The wine is available directly from the estate. As with all small batches of Hans Herzog wines, the new Blend has been much anticipated and are forecast to sell out in a matter of weeks.
