Nestled in the heart of Marlborough’s famous wine region resides one of New Zealand’s iconic artisan wine estates - Hans Herzog. The estate breathes the soul of owners Hans and Therese Herzog, the passionate Vignerons who are supported by a small but unique team of individuals who share the same values: a passion for wine and a commitment to excellence and quality.

The pace of Therese & Hans is fast, as they are working hard to deliver some of New Zealand’s most respected, truly handcrafted wines. To become part of our family, we expect you to be highly qualified and someone who likes to excel in their job and is passionate about it. If you are after a big income, there are plenty of corporate wineries in Marlborough. Here, we try to achieve something much more satisfying in life.

We invite you to join our small but amazing team with the following offered positions:

Vineyard & Winery Assistant

Start Date: by appointment
Permanent, full-time
Reports to Hans Herzog

For a hands-on skilled worker with real passion to be involved in every aspect of high-quality artisan winegrowing...

Established in 1994, we kept our beautiful family-owned and operated wine estate small to produce some of New Zealand’s most respected artisan, estate-bottled wines from our 11.5-hectare organic certified vineyard. Hans and Therese Herzog are the stewards of this beautiful plot of land and maintain a holistic approach to farming. Their handcrafted wines come in small quantities but have stolen the hearts of wine lovers all over the world.

Hans is obsessive about fruit quality and to make his fine wines, extensive vineyard work is needed. The vines nurtured with immaculate detail to produce a low yielding crop of exceptionally concentrated fruit.

Hans is hands on and hardworking but cannot do it all alone and is looking for someone with great physical strength and endurance for a hands-on role. The focus is on the hands on day-to-day management of the vineyard and some winery cellar work.

Key task for this role include:

Tractor operations such as cultivating, under-vine weeding, mulching, moving, spraying, canopy trimming, leaf plucking

Manual operations such as canopy management, hand-pruning, vine training, netting the vineyard, hand-picking and all other harvest activities.

Cellar hand tasks

Good machinery operation skills and the ability to work unsupervised once shown, are appreciated.

Our ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in the quality of their work, has a willingness to learn and enjoys working outdoors. A 'jack-of-all-trades' with a 'can do’ attitude who doesn’t mind doing the odd not-wine-related-job on our working farm.

We are a small team, and our new colleague should be open-minded and friendly, with a happy disposition, and possessing the required skills. Also, our goal is to create amazing, handcrafted wines, not accumulate immense financial wealth. If you are after a big income, there a plenty of corporate wineries in Marlborough. Here, we try to achieve something much more satisfying. Somewhere to learn how great wines are crafted naturally.
