2008 Montepulciano – A Bold Expression of Our Iconic Italian Stallion

The 2008 Montepulciano offers a powerful yet refined expression of our iconic varietal, crafted from meticulously low-yielding vines for natural intensity and complexity. This bold vintage exudes elegance and strength, with an impressive depth of flavour that showcases Hans’ mastery of winegrowing. Now carefully aged to perfection, the 2008 captures the soul of our estate and offers a rare opportunity to savour the sumptuousness and immensity of this exceptional wine.

Vintage 2008+

The Hans Herzog Montepulciano is produced from extremely low yields that results in amazingly high concentration levels. The 2008 vintage produced a full-bodied and deep dark cherry coloured Montepulciano bursting with power, concentration and texture.

Hans' Winemaking Comments+

After a long wild yeast fermentation to enhance the dark colour and intense flavours, the wine was transferred and subsequently aged for 24 months in French oak barrels, partly new.  The wine was then bottled without any fining or filtration.

Tasting Notes+

On release the wine was described as: A heady nose, displaying flavours of cranberry and dark ripe plums, underpinned by liquorish and savoury overtones. This is a complex blend of intense ripe fruit enveloped by fine tannins. A voluptuous, smooth and delicate wine which will age gracefully over the next 15 years.
