Zweigelt Jeroboam, Hans Herzog

Zweigelt 2010 Magnum (1.5L)

Regular price $438.00 Sale

Zweigelt, one of the most exciting Austrian varieties combines the best qualities of its parents St Laurent x Blaufrankisch. Think of the spice character of Syrah and the floral notes of Malbec. Stunning complexity, wonderful vivid acidity - a flavour powerhouse with elegant structure and a lingering finish. Built to last…

Vintage 2010+

We picked our 2010 Zweigelt on the 10th of April at a very low yield of less than 1kg per vine. This is Austria’s most widely planted red grape variety created in 1922 by Dr Zweigelt from a crossing of the grape varieties St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch.

Hans' Winemaking Comments+

The Zweigelt spent 15 days on the skins progressing to a wild yeast fermentation before being pressed and transferred into French Barriques for a malolactic fermentation. This seductive "Austrian" has been aged on its fine lees for 13 months. No fining, no filtration.

Tasting Notes+

This Jeroboam 2010 is a dream come true! A powerhouse of an Austrian red, rich and dark violet in colour  with flavours of ripe berries, black pepper, spices with earthy undertones. Aromas reminiscent of a basket of ripe stone fruits, damsons, elderberries and bitter dark chocolate. A highly complex wine with great acidity, structure and velvety smooth tannins.
