Montepulciano, our iconic Italian Stallion exudes complexity and strength. Yields are kept extremely low to achieve perfect physiological ripeness for natural concentration, complexity and an impressive flavour profile that expresses the soul of Hans’ winegrowing. Real elegance, power, sumptuousness, immensity, and emotion is transmitted by tasting this nectar.

Vintage 2008+

The Hans Herzog Montepulciano is produced from extremely low yields that results in amazingly high concentration levels. The 2008 vintage produced a full-bodied and deep dark cherry coloured Montepulciano bursting with power, concentration and texture.

Hans' Winemaking Comments+

After a long wild yeast fermentation to enhance the dark colour and intense flavours, the wine was transferred and subsequently aged for 24 months in French oak barrels, partly new.  The wine was then bottled without any fining or filtration.

Tasting Notes+

On release the wine was described as: A heady nose, displaying flavours of cranberry and dark ripe plums, underpinned by liquorish and savoury overtones. This is a complex blend of intense ripe fruit enveloped by fine tannins. A voluptuous, smooth and delicate wine which will age gracefully over the next 15 years.
